I look at the third chakra as our fuel cell, or battery pack. This chakra is located in the abdomen, close to the belly button. A healthy third chakra has just the right amount of energy necessary to fuel the body. We can turn our power down when we are resting and then amp it up when we are running errands.
Foreign energy in this chakra causes a person’s power to run either too high or too low for the present circumstance. An example would be a person who gets hyper-excited and then cannot fall asleep at night. Foreign energy in this chakra might come from a person who is trying to live their life vicariously through you. Or, if you are a control freak, just know that you are probably spewing your energy all around, leaving very little left to fuel your own body. My favorite energy to look at in the third chakra is perfectionism. Those of us who cannot let go of the need to be perfect probably have lots of someone else’s energy in this space. Oftentimes your mother’s energy is in this space reminding you to wear a coat, comb your hair, or smile more often.
Third chakra meditation
Sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor with your eyes closed. Bring your awareness to your breath. On each inhale bring more of your awareness to that space in the center of your head, your meditative space. On each exhale, sink deeper into your chair, grounding to the earth. Breathe in and intend for all your scattered energies to return to you. Breathe out and exhale all the thoughts and shoulds of your neighbors and friends. Breathe in and center, breathe out and ground.
Now with your eyes still closed, imagine a bubble of energy in front of you. See a soap bubble form in your imagination and ask that bubble to represent your third chakra. Watch as colors fill in the bubble. Maybe you imagine the colors as flowing rivers of blue and green. Maybe you see images of globs of dark red or streaks of pink. As you see this bubble filling in with different colors, you might receive an intuitive “hit” as to what those colors mean. Don’t discount those thoughts. They are real. That’s YOU, Your Spirit, giving you information. Maybe you see fireworks exploding and you think to yourself, “Yes, I seem to be on fire these days, full of energy and vitality”. Or maybe you see the colors leaking out of the bubble and think to yourself, “Yup, I’m certainly spending my time and energy doing for others instead of caring for myself.” Just look and notice what you notice.
These colors and images are there to help you see the energetic blueprint of your third chakra. Now imagine a grounding cord on that bubble of energy. See a hollow tube of energy forming around the base of the bubble and ask that all the colors and corresponding energies that are not yours to flow down that grounding cord and return to Mother Earth. See your bubble drain. Watch as the pink streaks of perfectionism leave your bubble. Watch as the energies of exhaustion and overwhelm leave the bubble. See the bubble form a solid boundary along its outside edges. Know that as it does this you are setting your boundaries with other people, allowing your battery pack to be filled up to capacity for you first.
Now intend for this bubble, representing your third chakra, to fill in with colors that are in affinity with you. Maybe you want to experience more peace and calm energy. On the other hand, maybe you want to add some drive, enthusiasm or vitality energy to your bubble. Whatever energy would feel good to you right now, add it to the bubble. Know that to change the energetics of a situation or a chakra, all you need to do is bring your awareness to it and then intend it to be something else. Awareness, then intent. That’s all.
Finally, imagine your third chakra coming into a match with the colors and vibrations of this bubble. Feel your body shift as your third chakra starts to vibrate with the energies you’ve added to the image of your bubble. Feel your body tingle as it adjusts to this new vibration. Sit in silence for a moment as your body adjusts to this new vibration.
Now, open your eyes and come out of meditation.
Anytime you start to feel depleted or low on energy, just repeat this quick meditation. Oftentimes I find that about mid afternoon I do this “chakra break” instead of heading for a cup of coffee or a heavy snack. I’ve learned that my energy body is telling me it’s time to readjust, to put my own needs first, and to recharge my internal batteries. Try it and let me know what you think.
