Living Your Authentic Life in Grace

If you look to others for fulfillment, you will never truly be fulfilled. If your happiness depends on money, you will never be happy with yourself. Be content with what you have…rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. ~ Lao Tzu

This month we are working with the energy of manifesting.  Bringing our dream life into form. We’ve developed our Be, Do, Have list – that list of events, circumstances and feeling-states that fill us with joy, peace and contentedness and are the outward expressions of our inner authenticity.

We’re now ready to move on to the second step in Claiming Our Authentic Life – what I call the state of havingness. Havingness is that dual state of being OK with exactly where you are right now, while at the same time wanting more.

As Lao Tzu expresses so eloquently, by looking outside for fulfillment – by not being OK with who we are right here, right now – we are coming from a state of lack.  We are looking, seeking, craving after something we don’t have.  And this state of non-havingness will magnetize to us more of the same – the energy of lack!

Instead, if we realize that we already are all those things we seek, if there is nothing lacking, then we are in the feeling state of abundance – and from there the whole world belongs to us.

This is a difficult concept to grasp because we’ve been taught to go after, to strive, to yearn for, that which we don’t have. We’ve been taught that it’s about the doing – the actively seeking -that brings us happiness.

But if we realize that nothing is lacking, if our days are filled with thoughts of appreciation, gratitude, prosperity and abundance, then we send out a strong signal to the Universe: send me events, circumstances and people that match my state of gratitude, appreciation and prosperity.

That doesn’t mean we can’t want more – that’s still possible.  It’s changing the frequency with which we want that’s the key.

What we feel, we will be. Our thoughts and feelings of contentedness, peace and wholeness magnetize all the material things that represent this authenticity to us. Like attracts like – that’s the miracle.  That’s the process of manifesting a life full of purpose and meaning.

So how do we get to the spot of living in feelings of appreciation, gratitude, wholeness and purpose?

For me, it’s been a gradual process of peeling away the layers of self-doubt, unworthiness, and self-degradation. Learning not to judge; myself or others. Allowing me to be me, whatever that is. Living to the fullest and best and highest possible Della. That’s what has allowed me to be content and at peace with what I have right now.

I’ve asked myself many times “Can I have my current state of being, with all its ups and downs, disappointments and discouragements? Can I have exactly where I am right now, for the rest of my life?”

Think about that for a long moment.

Can you have exactly where you are, with all the discomfort you may feel about your financial situation, your job, your relationships, for the rest of your life? Can you stop the striving for that which is outside of you and be content with your current state of your existence?

If you come to terms with that, if you feel deep in your soul, that you are exactly where you should be at this moment in time, doing exactly what is best for you, then – right there – in that moment of acceptance – is grace.

That is the miracle. Grace. Grace removes the feelings of lack. Grace is that state of authenticity. It is a non-striving, totally aware, totally creative space of havingness.

Can you make that shift?

We will work more with this state of havingness in the next couple of posts because this is the key to manifesting all the material things that we want.

First we must be content with where we are – in abundance, not lack.  Then as we reach for more, we do so from a place of abundance.

But for right now, just consider shifting your thoughts from striving, craving, running-after, to being content with what is right here, right now.

Your Authentic Life: Getting Clear

Do you know what you want out of life? Is it crystal clear and bright in your mind? Can you smell it? Taste it? Hear it? Feelings have power. Lots of power. The Universe will bring you what you ask for; you just have to be clear, concise and specific.

“Our minds become magnetized with the dominating thoughts we hold in our minds and, by means which no man is familiar, these magnets attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.”  Napoleon Hill Think and Grow Rich pg 21.

Much has been written about visualizing what you want; attracting things and ways of being into your universe via the Law of Attraction. We know that like attracts like. All thoughts are powerful, but the most powerful thoughts are full of feelings and emotions. Napoleon Hill calls these your “dominating thoughts”. If we feel it, sense it, see it, then we can manifest it.

As we work this month on attracting the events, people and circumstances that are in alignment with our authentic self, it is helpful to remember that this magnetizing action works all the time. It works while you are awake and while you are asleep, pulling to you frequencies that are in harmony with your thoughts, feelings and emotions.

The question then becomes: How do you control your thoughts so that only those that are aligned to your authentic life are the magnets?

You don’t. You cannot control all of your thoughts. There are too many of them. What you can do is become conscious of those thoughts that are limiting and allow them to drift away. Don’t give credence to them. Just let them float by. A thought is just a thought. It is nothing until you attach a story to it.

To limit the potential of a random thought interfering with your belief that you can have any item on your Be, Do, Have List, (see previous post here) become clear on what you want.

As an example, let’s say that one of the items on your Living an Authentic Life list is to take an extended hiking trip, spending two weeks backpacking away from phones and computers.   You know that this activity would bring you joy and would be an outward expression of who you truly are. Maybe you’ve even thought about hiking the Appalachian Trail next summer. But as you think about actually making plans, you start to wonder about whether you’d be better off staying closer to home and taking shorter hikes around your local area.

One minute you want it one way, the next minute you want it the other way. One minute your thought is “I want to hike the Appalachian Trail”, the next minute your thought is “I want to stay home and hike”. You really can’t decide between the two.

Well if you can’t decide, then the universe isn’t going to decide for you. The Universe will throw up its hands and look down on you saying, “Geez, make up your mind will you? I’d be happy to give you what you ask for, but I gotta know what that is!”

It is the multiple requests that you send out, either consciously or unconsciously, that get in the way of manifesting what you desire.

So get clear. Write it down. Take your list of items on your Be, Do Have List and describe in detail what’s important about each item. If the place you do your hiking is not that important, then leave it out of the request. Give the Universe something to work with. Avoid random thoughts as you focus on what you want to manifest.

Once you are clear about what you want then visualize the event actually happening. If you decided on hiking close to home, then see it. Imagine the smell of the forest. See yourself lacing up your boots, strapping on your backpack and taking those first steps onto the trail.   Feel the clean crisp morning air and visualize watching the sun rise from the mountain top.

Feelings are important. Make this as real as you can. The belief that you can manifest events like this is fueled by your thoughts and your feelings – the magnets. So write it out. Spend time making your thoughts and feelings crisp, clean and clear. Say your desire aloud to yourself. Feel it. Be it. Know that as you do, you are adding the fuel to your manifestation project.

Please share the love! Thanks for reading, and if this post resonated with you, please share it on your favorite social networks. Every share, like or tweet helps me reach more women who crave support in being as kind to themselves as they are to others. So glad you’re here!

Claiming Your Authentic Life

joy

This month I want to look at the process of living life on purpose and full of joy. A life that allows you to be authentically you. Living life this way takes more than just thinking positive thoughts, wishing, desiring, and repeating prosperity mantras all day long. It’s a process of becoming a conscious creator, one who intentionally chooses the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that are in alignment with the life one desires.

But the first step, as always, is becoming conscious of how you live your life now and what new choices you would like to make.

When we create something, we always craft its energetic form first as a thought or idea. You might say to yourself, “This year I want to live in joy.  I want to take my part time work as an artist and make it my full time job.” You think the thought and create an image, an energetic blueprint, of your new life.

You may picture in your mind what living as a full time artist would look like and you begin to create some sensations around the picture. You imagine sitting in your sun-filled studio on a Monday morning, with the windows open as the birds chirp from the tree in the yard. These sensory feelings add substance to the thought: “I want to become a full time artist.”

As you do this, the thought-form grows in power and begins magnetizing to it other energies that are of the same frequency. You then move into the phase of trying this new idea on for size, assessing whether you can really truly have this newly updated lifestyle. You figure out costs and discuss it with friends and family, all the while test-driving this desire.

If you decide this is a comfortable fit, if you can energetically have it, then your thought-form begins to gain physical mass. Maybe you sketch out a redesign of the existing guest bedroom turned artist studio, or window shop for art supplies.

We create our lives this way, thought-form to reality, and we do it either consciously or unconsciously. If you had stayed in a dreamy, fantasy state about becoming a full time artist, then the thought-form would have attracted more dreamy, fantasy energy, and you might never have gotten beyond the wishing and hoping phase.

So during this month of blog posts and the in-depth exercises and meditations presented in the newsletter, we will look at this process of how to create a life of your dreams by following a specific step by step plan to claim your authentic life.

The first step of this plan to become consciously aware of what you really want. Here’s an exercise to get you started:

Exercise: Be, Do, Have – Authentically

  1. Make a list of twenty things that you want to be, do, or have. Include items that would help you live a more authentic life. Maybe you’ve wanted to swim with the dolphins or hike the Appalachian Trail. Maybe your dream is to start a new business, learn to sing on key or play the piano. Maybe going back to school or having a bigger home would help you feel full of joy and ease. On the other hand, you might want to be less frustrated when talking with your aging parent or to be friendlier to a new neighbor. Add events, things and circumstances to the list that would bring you joy and fill you with contentedness.
  2. After you have made your list, sit in meditation and just tune in to your intuition.(Here’s a short meditation to get you started: Four minute daily meditation).
  3. Take one item on your list and ask yourself the question: “Is this my want or someone else’s?” Maybe one of your items is a “should” as in “I should own a home at my age”. Or maybe it’s someone else’s energy as in “My husband really wants me to go back to school and get my degree”.
  4. Whatever comes up, just sit with it. Determine whether the item is yours or someone else’s. If it’s yours, keep it on your list. If it belongs to someone else, then see what your true wish, hope or desire is around that item. Maybe your idea morphs into something else or maybe you choose to scratch it completely off of your list. This is your list and your life. There is no right or wrong answer here, only your answer.
  5. As you come out of meditation be in gratitude for all that you do have and all the ways that your life is full right here, right now. Know that as you learn to differentiate your own wants and desires from those of other people in your life, you are taking the first step to living an authentic life – full of opportunities and choices based upon your own true desires.

We will work with this list in future blog posts, but for now, just keep refining your list to capture desires that are authentically you.

If you’ve enjoyed this post, then please share on your social media sites. It’s time for all of us (women especially!!) to learn how to be as compassionate and caring to ourselves as we are to others.
