The end of one year and the beginning of another is a natural time to clear out the old and make space for something new. It’s a time to reset. To think about what’s not working in our lives and how we want to change it up going forward. Most people do this by listing their New Year’s resolutions, but the list is often based in negativity and lack. Have you noticed that? Maybe that’s why resolutions never turn out the way we think they will.
For example, in thinking of what you want to change up you might say to yourself, “Yuck. I don’t like my body. I need to lose weight. My New Year’s resolution is to drop fifteen pounds by March.” Notice how that is a negative statement. Whatever you believe about yourself is reflected back to you and becomes your reality. If you believe you’re fat or that you need to lose fifteen pounds before you look good, you will attract that same frequency—“FAT”—back toward you. It’s as if a giant magnet were inside your space, attracting events and circumstances that are in direct correlation to your thoughts and feelings. Whether you experience love, fear, anger, happiness or joy, what you think and feel, you will be.
Instead, you might resolve to reset the way you think about exercise and taking care of your body. Maybe your resolution becomes, “I choose to fill my body with healthy food and actively engage in some form of exercise each day.” Notice how that’s a positive statement of resetting the energy around maintaining good health. There’s not a should or negative word in that statement.
You might even want to take this New Year’s Resolution thing to the next level. For me, I don’t think in terms of resolutions at all because even with the upmost care, there’s still a level of push or should around believing that I need to change – that I’m not good enough just the way I am.
Instead, I write out a statement every New Year’s Day about who I am right now and fill myself in with gratitude and acceptance energies. My current Statement of Being goes something like this:
I consciously create my reality every day with my thoughts and feelings. Therefore, each day I am grateful for all that life brings my way. I live in a state of appreciation for all that I have. I am happy, content, excited, joyful, kind, and generous. I give freely because I know that there is more than enough for all of us. I love deeply and listen intently. I am present in the here and now. I live in a state of gratitude and peace, knowing that these feelings of goodwill and kindness are mirrored back to me in awe-filled ways that I cannot even imagine right now. I am open and ready to receive. I can “have” all of this and MORE. Ms. Universe, BRING IT ON!!
I keep this Statement close by throughout the year, and anytime I start to fall into the energies of doubt, self-criticism, or fear, I pull it out, re-read it, and surround myself in the energies of self-love and self-acceptance.
Be inspired by all the possibilities this year will bring. Reset your space and your intentions, but do so from the positive. Be in gratitude for all that is. Blessings and wishing you a year full of love and laughter!
