Your Fourth Chakra – Self Acceptance and Self Love

Most of the work I do with clients, and the main topic of my book, Tame Your Inner Critic and Live Your Life On Purpose, centers around the heart center, the fourth chakra.  This chakra is all about relating – how you relate to others, and most importantly, how you relate to yourself.

I believe that every person carries an image of themselves, a personal magnetic template, in their fourth chakra, the heart center.  This template is a miniaturized version of the way we see ourselves and the beliefs we hold about our world.

If we see ourselves as fat, then the template registers fat and magnetizes to us experiences, events, and people that are on the same frequency as fat.  Like attracts like.

If we believe that people are kind, it registers that belief and brings kinder people and events into our lives.  If you say, “Ugh, it’s a horrible day, and I hate my job”, then it registers unhappiness, anger or whatever emotion is attached to those thoughts.

No matter how you were raised, what your parents said to you, what beliefs you hold about your body or your personality, all of those pictures can be erased, if you so choose.

Those pictures are your beliefs.  What you believe about yourself becomes what you think about yourself.  Thoughts are followed by feelings and feelings are followed up with action. Therefore, you act in accordance with your beliefs.  Your personal magnetic template registers your thoughts, feelings and beliefs and pulls like-minded energies into your space.  This cycle repeats until you challenge a belief through inquiry.

Most often beliefs form in our subconscious mind.  We have been “programmed” by our families, TVs, advertising, and our friends.  A story is implanted in a person’s psyche about how life should be, what is supposed to happen, and we buy into that story.  We believe.

As an example, our society is obsessed with the way women look.  Skinny, young, curvy, sexy.  All of these thought-forms have banded together and are very powerful.  The western world is vibrating at a frequency of young and beautiful.  If we are unconscious, we can fall into accepting those vibrations, that story, as our own.  We soon “believe” that to be beautiful you must be thin and sexy.  Because this is our subconscious belief, we act accordingly.  We buy products, diet, wear certain clothes, all because of our belief that thin is beautiful.  Really?

Questioning A Belief

As we bring our awareness to this belief and question it’s validity, we can decide if  the statement “thin is the only beautiful” rings true for us.  That is questioning a belief.  Consciously.

As we unravel this belief, we change the vibration, the frequency of our thoughts.  We are no longer drawing to us, without question, thoughts of “I must be thin.  I’m too fat.  Life is horrible because I am not a size 2”.  If we consciously change our belief, we attract new thoughts, new vibrations to our space.  Our template becomes different.  We become different.  We act differently, we verbalize different statements; we are different.

As we remove this old programming of who we think we should be, and what we think we should do, we are coming into alignment with our true nature, Our Spirit.  Our new beliefs will send ripples of newness throughout our auras.  Our thoughts will be different, our feelings will be different, and the actions we take in the world will also be new and different.  We will come closer and closer to being a vibrational match with our Highest and Best Selves.

Here’s an exercise to cement that new personal magnetic template of yourself into your fourth chakra, your heart center.

Exercise: Your Template: Your Fourth Chakra

  1. Sit in a comfortable chair, feet flat on the floor with your eyes closed.  Sit and breathe in peace and stillness.  Be in the center of your head, grounded and at ease.  Breathe in and out, sinking deeper into your chair with each exhale.
  2. Imagine looking in a mirror and seeing your reflection, exactly as you are right now.  Picture yourself coming into focus in front of your closed eyes.  See a clear, clean, crisp image out in front of you.  If you need to step out of meditation to go check in the mirror, please do so.
  3. Come back into meditation.  Close your eyes again and imagine standing in front of an exact duplicate of you.  This duplicate has the same hairstyle, the same eyes, the same nose, and the same fingernails.   Look down and see if this image is wearing the same color socks that you have on today.
  4. If you need to step out of meditation again, do so.  Go look at yourself again in the mirror.  Really look.  Stare, in fact.  Say hello and send some loving thoughts to your mirror image.  Now go back to your meditative state.
  5. Look again at that template of yourself.  Make sure the image really, truly looks like you.  Look deep into your soul eyes.  See kindness, see joy.  What quirky personality traits make you – you?  Validate those unique qualities that differentiate you from your next-door neighbor. Intend for this image to represent your new beliefs and your new core life story.
  6. Have this image reflect your updated version of who you truly are, right now, today.
  7. Once you feel that your personal magnetic template is an exact duplicate of who you are right now, imagine reaching out and pulling that image closer to your physical body.  Pull it into your heart, your fourth chakra.  Place it right in the middle of your heart space.  Feel the image anchor in, solid and secure.
  8. Come out of mediation and feel a shift in your perception about who you truly are.   Own it.  Be it.  Integrate it.

As you go about the activities of your day, be conscious of your thoughts and words.  Spend time reflecting on whether they represent the new you, or the old you.  Become comfortable with this new image of yourself.

Know that as you integrate this image into your life, your thoughts will change, your beliefs about yourself will change, and then your actions will change.  You are on the way to living the life full of events and circumstances that are in alignment with the shining light that you are.
