Learn about your body's seven chakras and the role each one plays in your physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Chakras Joy and the Divine

30 June, 2015 — Posted in: All About Chakras, Living In Joy Leave a Comment

IMG_3805For the last two months on the blog, we have been looking at the role our chakras play in living a life full of joy.  If a chakra (the way station between our feeling states and our body) is blocked, then so is our ability find that sweet spot of sustained well-being – that feeling state of joy.

We create our life on the energetic level first.  We think a thought, we have a feeling, and then we develop a belief.  Only after all this energetic work has happened do we bring that belief into reality. If our chakras are full of other people’s thoughts and feelings, then we may be living a life that’s out of sync with our Spirit’s idea of what joy means to us.

Clearing foreign energy from our chakras and then bringing them into harmony, allows us to experience our unique version of joy, not someone else’s.

The seventh chakra is a ring of energy, sitting almost like a king’s crown, on top of your head.  Not surprisingly, it is sometimes referred to as the crown chakra.  This chakra sets the tone for all your other chakras. It is also your connection to the Divine.  However, you see that God of Your Own Heart, this is your space of communion.  When the seventh chakra is vibrating in a match with the Divine, you are vibrating in a state of knowing your own Spirit.
The work we are doing together is all about helping you to shine brightly, to stand in your truth and beingness.  Being comfortable in your skin.  This journey is about allowing ourselves to be seen for who we truly are and sharing that light with the world.
I’d like to share with you an audio meditation on connecting with Source and bringing all seven chakras into balance with the energy of joy.

Connecting with Joy: Your Sixth Chakra

25 June, 2015 — Posted in: All About Chakras, Living In Joy Leave a Comment

thirdeye12I believe we all want to live a life full of joy and inner peace. Some of us look for joy in the world of doing – expecting to find joy in our job, our community, or our friendships. But some of us know that joy is an inside job. It’s a feeling of the soul. We can have a great job and a wonderful set of friends, but if our soul is pining for something else, then joy is absent.

The question then becomes what is joy if it’s not found in our outer world of doing? For me, joy emanates from the center of my being outward. It is a feeling that originates in my Spirit-self and is expressed through my chakras, the home of our thoughts and feelings.

Chakras are energetic way stations connecting our Spirit to our physical body. When our chakras are operating at optimum levels, the impulses of energy they send to our physical body (via our hormones) help us feel calm and centered.

Daily meditation offers us an opportunity to quiet the outside voices—the noises of other peoples’ thoughts and feelings—and tune into our inner knowingness, our inner wisdom. When we meditate, our bodies relax and our minds quiet. Within this space of stillness, we communicate with our soul and touch into that feeling state of joy and inner bliss.

Our sixth chakra, often called the Third Eye, is the home of our personal sanctuary – the “place” we go when we meditate. The following meditation is one I often use to clean out the competing voices in my head so that I can tune into my inner guidance system and experience joy.

Meditation: Connecting with Joy

  1. Sit with your eyes closed, feet flat on the floor. Close the door to your room so that you will not be disturbed.
  2. Now imagine bringing all your awareness into the center of your head. Behind the eyes, between the ears, is your personal sanctuary. Some people call this the home of your Spirit-self. It is in the center of your sixth chakra. Bring all your attention to that space. With your eyes closed, feel all of your energy come to stillness in your personal sanctuary. Feel this space open up and envelop you. Be there now.
  3. Take a couple of deep breaths. Relax and just be.
  4. This is your space. It is for you alone. However, we often find that other people’s thoughts intrude into our quiet sanctuary. If you are thinking of yesterday’s conversation with someone or a phone call you will be making in the future, those thoughts may be overshadowing your ability to hear and intuit your internal wisdom.
  5. If you feel that all the thoughts of things to do and places to be start to encroach on this space, just tell those thoughts that you will be with them in a moment or two. Ask them to give you some space. Feel those thoughts empty out of your mind, leaving you relaxed and at peace.
  6. With your eyes still closed, visualize all unwanted thoughts, feelings, and tensions floating away like clouds in a summer sky. Watch as your to-do list floats by on a puff of air. Intend for all the thoughts of how you should behave and what you should do to drain out of your body. Feel them drop from your shoulders and allow gravity to move those “shoulds” out of your body forever.
  7. From this space of inner stillness, start to count each breath. On the inhale count one and on the exhale count two. Inhale again and count three, exhale and count four. That’s all. Inhale and count, exhale and count. Breathe. Count each breath.
  8. Continue to count your breaths. Inhale, one, exhale two. Over and over. If you lose track of counting then no worries, just start again. The object is not to count higher and higher, the object is to still the mind and breathe – that is all. Feel your body relax your mind grow quiet as you enter deeper and deeper states of consciousness.
  9. Now ask your Spirit-self what would bring you joy. Think about what brings you joy. Be in thought for a moment more. Just breathe and be. Bring to the surface of your memory times when you felt intense joy. Think of what you were doing when time stood still. Maybe you were surrounded by friends and family, or maybe you were alone.
  10. Touch into that deep feeling of joy. Bring it up from the depths of your memory and ask your Spirit self to surround you in that feeling-state now. Breathe. Allow this energy of joy to permeate every cell of your body. Feel joy reach into your heart, your throat, and your fingertips. Ask that this feeling of joy spread throughout your body and aura.
  11. What color is joy? Yes, feelings have color, and as you expand your sixth chakra, you can “see” or intuit the colors and vibrations of individual energies. What does joy look like to you? As joy expands to fill your whole body and aura, just allow. That is all. Breathe and be in joy.
  12. Sit in silence as you experience joy.
  13. After a while, you will notice that your mind begins to become more active as you almost float up and out into a more acute state of awareness. Before you leave your meditative state, think about how you want the rest of your day to unfold. Do you want to feel peaceful? Focused? However you would like your day to go, now is the time to intend it to be that way. We call this setting your intention. Think the thought, “I want to be focused yet full of joy today.” Know that as you think, so you shall be. Feel those qualities surround you now. Feel your body relaxed and at peace.
  14. When you are ready, open your eyes, and come fully out of meditation.

As you begin to meditate on a regular basis, you may tune into your inner guidance system more readily. Remember the feeling state of joy. Anytime during the day that you are feeling frazzled or out of sync, remember this meditation, and ask that your body and mind return to this blissful state of joy.

The Healing Power of Sound

20 June, 2015 — Posted in: All About Chakras, Living In Joy Leave a Comment

rp_thought-waves-300x240.jpg

We are creating the world by how we speak to each other. The words we choose; the tonality that we choose. The entire human collective is in our dark night of the soul right now. New knowledge and intelligence will sing through my voice and new solutions will come forward for us to change the course of our history. Tom Kenyon

This month we are discussing how the state of our chakras affects our ability to have a life full of joy and internal peace. We’re looking for that sustained level of well-being that surfaces as we align our outside activities, the world of doing, with our inner world of being.

Each chakra plays a vital role in this dance of joy. Your fifth chakra is located in your throat and is the seat of your ability to communicate, verbally and non-verbally. It is the chakra most closely associated with speaking your truth.

If this chakra and aura layer are clogged with foreign energy, you may find yourself verbalizing other peoples’ truths, or find it hard to express your thoughts clearly and fully. Have you ever said something and then thought, “That doesn’t sound like me! That sounds more like my mother (or father, or friend)!”  That is foreign energy clogging up your fifth chakra. It’s hard to live an authentic life – a life full of purpose and meaning – if this chakra is full of other people’s opinions, judgments and thoughts. Of course one of the best ways of cleaning out this foreign energy is to use your tools! Blowing the energy up in a rose is my #1 go-to tool for clearing out my throat chakra. I also enjoy sound meditation.

“If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies. One reason sound heals on a physical level is because it so deeply touches and transforms us on the emotional and spiritual planes. Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.” Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, director of Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine, the Cornell Cancer Prevention Center in New York

Tom Kenyon  is a world renowned sound healer. He’s featured in the movie Song of the New Earth and his website is full of information and downloadable meditations to bring healing and balance to all of your chakras.

Living an authentic life – a life full of joy and inner peace – is a challenge. Clearing our chakras from foreign energy (the shoulds, opinions, and judgments of others) allows our body to return to balance. And from this state of balance we resonate with our inner truth, not someone else’s.

Speaking My Own Truth

15 June, 2015 — Posted in: All About Chakras, Living In Joy Leave a Comment

437287441_726890de1c_zIt’s not easy for me to speak my truth. I’m a people pleaser, and I try to make other people feel good, happy and at peace. But what if my wants and needs don’t match up with the other person? Am I able to speak my mind, set my boundaries and stand for my needs at the same time? Not always!

Thoughts and feelings are energy, and energy is meant to flow. Unexpressed emotions and thoughts can become stuck, freezing in place causing unease in the body. We often hear the phrase, “the words were stuck at the back of my throat”, or “I couldn’t get the words out of my mouth”. As we hold this stuck energy as a tension in the body, our throat may feel like cotton or become irritated and scratchy. The jaw may tighten, and our teeth may hurt.

When I first started looking at this energetically, I saw my throat chakra as a big ball of deep blue energy held tightly in place by rubbery looking vines. To me, this symbolized my inability to speak my own truth. The vines kept my communication stilted, “nice”, polite, and non-controversial. The deep blue reminded me of all my shoulds – as in “I should only say what will make the other person feel good’ “I should speak kindly, even if I’m not feeling that way”. I spoke my opinions, often loud and clear, but if someone had a differing opinion, I would back down, acquiescing, giving them the dominant position. I shied away from controversy.

Even today, as my friend and I, were trying to arrange a time to meet, I had a hard time stating my needs clearly and cleanly. But I got through it by imagining those big blue vines loosening up and allowing me more freedom in my speech.

Just a small thing – but living a life full of joy and meaning is finding a way to stand in your power while at the same time being considerate of other people.

Joy and Gratitude: Brene and Oprah

10 June, 2015 — Posted in: All About Chakras, Living In Joy Leave a Comment

8273485765_a3400a380c_z“I define joy as a sustained sense of well-being and internal peace – a connection to what matters” Oprah Winfrey

This month we are looking at the role our chakras play in helping us live a life full of joy and inner peace. I think of chakras as energetic way stations connecting our Spirit to our physical body. I envision them as wheels of spinning energy located along the central axis of your body that house the energy of your thoughts and feelings. These bands of vibrating energy provide information to your endocrine system, regulating your hormones and balancing the energy within your body.

The fourth chakra is located in the center of your chest, very close to your physical heart. This is the energy center associated with love; not the romantic, sexual love so much as the love of self and the love of others- a connection to what matters.

You are what you think, and your thoughts and feelings affect your chakras. The practice of gratitude is the practice of expressing love – and this helps to keep this chakra in balance. Joy and gratitude are inner twined. As you express gratitude for what others have done for you, or what you experience, you send out waves of love energy from your heart center – your fourth chakra. This sense of gratitude is the gateway to the energy of joy.

Brene Brown and Oprah talk about joy and gratitude in this segment of Super Soul Sunday. What I found most interesting in listening to this segment was how we can so easily talk ourselves out of joy.

10761336926_56820688f8_zLiving a heart-centered life means filling your life with thoughts of loving kindness and compassion towards others. It means that your heart is open and you are in a state of gratitude –every day, all day.
